Honeymoonin' in Los Cabos, Mexico

Scott planned the whole Honeymoon and decided he wanted it to be a surprise until we got to the airport. He gave me a list of 10 possible choices with the honeymoon spot being one of them, and each month he would eliminate one off the list. This left only two options the day of our wedding. He told me that we will be next to a beach, it would be hot, and I needed a passport. Three things that I wanted to hear :). I have never been out of the country so I was very excited to experience this first with Scott. Due to filling out flight information and passport forms Scott ended up having to tell me where we were going the night before we left. I was very excited! I am still pretty proud of him for keeping a secret for as long as he did.
It was a very early morning flight so we were up bright and early. We got to the airport in PLENTY of time; if there is one thing I have learned about the Lindquist family it is that they like to be early. I didn’t mind though, we were newlyweds about to get on a plane to a tropical paradise! It was a long day of traveling with a lot of anticipation built up. When we finally landed we were greeted by the owners of the condo we were staying at, they were kind enough to pick us up at the airport and drive us to the condo themselves to show us around.

It wasn’t long before we headed to the beach. Unfortunately, Scott insisted on only bringing carry-ons, (heaven forbid we pay for a checked bag) which concluded to us not packing any sunscreen. The first day in Cabo we decided to risk it and went without any sun protection thinking that we wouldn’t burn. To our dismay that night our skin seemed to be on fire. We were as red as can be, even Scott, who had mentioned to me that he doesn’t burn. We learned our lesson there and decided that first thing in the morning, before we head to the beach, we would buy some sunscreen. $20.00! We paid $20.00 for sunscreen. Using Spanish, Scott tried to talk the lady down on her price. Although Scott’s Spanish did come in handy most of the trip and actually did work a lot of the time, it did not work in this case. Lesson learned. A little late, but lesson learned. Maybe Scott will let me check a bag next time ;).
Aside from the bad burns and blistered feet from the unbelievably hot sand we absolutely loved laying on the beach and swimming in the ocean. Along the beach there are vendors dressed in all white who walk back and forth all day trying to sell you something…anything you look at really. It is pretty amusing and annoying at the same time. How they can be in long sleeves, pants, with the hot sun, on the beach all day is beyond me. Scott did end up talking a guy way down on his price for a beautiful bracelet that I had my eye on.

The usual routine we had was wake up, breakfast, pack a little lunch, beach, dinner at our favorite restaurant Pepe’s tacos (seriously the best), and then walk around shops until it got dark. We had a lot of fun exploring and being in a new place. We did A LOT of walking; Scott gave in once and let us get a bicycle taxi ride :).

The day before we left we went on a snorkeling trip. Food and drinks were all inclusive (Scott was very excited about this part). The boat took us out to large reef where we stopped and snorkeled for about an hour. It was so much fun being surrounded by several fish. It was great being able to hold hands with my husband and snorkel together.

We hope to make it back someday, back to our honeymoon spot, and back to those fabulous Pepe’s tacos (Scott thinks I’m obsessed). The best part about the trip was being able to experience all of these things with Scott. Still to this day we can’t believe we are actually married! We have so much fun and are so happy to be able to spend each day together. Forever newlyweds.

Wedding bliss

Hers:

May 11th, 2013 was the best day of my life. Not only because I was marrying the man of my dreams, but because we would finally never have to do long distance again. As a little girl I would always try to imagine what my future husband would be like and Scott exceeds all of my expectations. How can I put into words such a beautiful day and a dream come true? Leading up to our special day, a ton of planning, tears, and stress went into coming up with the perfect reception. However, on our wedding day I realized that all of that stress and worrying was pointless because the only thing that mattered was the man who was right next to me and the promises we made to each other that day. The morning of the wedding and even the week leading up to the wedding I thought I would become more nervous and a total mess...but I wasn’t. I was completely at peace and calm the morning of the wedding day. I knew without a shadow of a doubt Scott was the man I was supposed to marry and I COULD NOT wait. The ceremony was absolutely p e r f e c t. The movies didn’t even come close to it. It was truly special, the temple more pure than I ever imagined…and will remain sacred and beautiful to me for eternities. The room was filled with our closest family and friends. I will never forget how I felt that day and the way Scott looked at me at the moment we were becoming husband and wife. It is so exciting to know that I am going to be with Scott forever.

It was a full and busy day and almost seems like a blur. It turned out exactly how I imagined it would, there were several moments that I wish I could have froze in time to enjoy it even longer. It was a magical night, and a perfect day. The colors of the wedding were shades of coral, blush pink, light grey, and ivory. Our reception was held in a family friend’s barn. There was a lot of work that went into fixing up the barn for the reception. Since I was at school during most of the time my parents really did a lot of the work to clean up and turn the barn into what I envisioned. I don’t think it would have turned out the way it did if it wasn’t for my parents who spent a lot of their weekends working at the barn. The theme was rustic, romantic, and whimsical.

One of my favorite parts of the reception was the cotton candy machine; I have always had a sweet tooth. The food that was served mostly consisted of desserts. Leading up to the reception I became an expert at chocolate dipping. We made cake pops, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate dipped wafers, chocolate dipped Oreos, and chocolate dipped strawberries. From what I heard everybody enjoyed everything! The reception closed with a sparkler send off which Scott and I walked through all our friends and family to get to our amazingly decorated car. I couldn’t have imagined a better day or a more perfect man to marry. We are so blessed to have had so many friends and family travel all the way to little ole Prosser to support and celebrate with us.

 His:

Growing up I don’t think that boys envision their wedding quite the same that girls do however I must admit that I had several of the same feelings that Kelli expressed in her description of the day. I was so thrilled to know that I was finally going to be able to be sealed to the girl of my dreams. The night before was a difficult one to get any sleep on, yet I still awoke energized to see my soon-to-be bride. I went over that morning to have a little unveiling of the dress before we headed to the temple. The anticipation was high; would I like the dress at all? How would I react? Sunny (our photographer) was going to be there taking pictures of my “first look” and I hadn’t the slightest idea of how I was supposed to react for these pictures. Thankfully my weariness of not knowing how to react upon the ‘unveiling’ was immediately abated and replaced with amazement by her absolute beauty. The temple sealing session was beyond any kind of expectation of what perfect could be, the spirit was so strong in the room. Looking across the altar from my wife she was glowing and perfectly pure, inside and out. From there on out after the sealing pretty much everything was a blur. I remember greeting several people and being really hungry. I could not have asked for any more out in regards to a beautiful bride and a sweet sealing and a ravishing reception.

Sealed for time and all eternity in the Columbia River Temple on May 11, 2013

I said YES!!!

Before I begin I will share a little bit of the time leading up to the perfect proposal from the perfect man of mine. Scott and I agreed that I would be with him to pick out the ring. Not that I don’t trust his taste, but when it comes to something I will be wearing for the rest of my life I decided I would be a little picky. It felt so crazy to the both of us that we were looking at rings; I couldn’t believe that what I had been dreaming about since I was little was actually happening to me! After looking around and researching I finally found one. So we had the ring picked out and ordered, but I had no idea when Scott would propose.
The magical proposal: Scott drove down to Provo to visit me just like any other weekend. I was dying to go to Texas Roadhouse so Scott and I got dressed up and went out to eat, then to the movies, and afterwards to top it off we walked to my favorite cupcake shop next to the movie theatre. I honestly had no clue this would be the night Scott would ask me to marry him; I didn’t even think he had picked up the ring from the jewelers yet. We buy our cupcakes and on our way back to the car a guy that I didn’t recognize wearing a nice suit and tie got off a park bench and walked right up to me and asked “are you Kelli Wilson?” after hesitantly responding “uh yes” he pulled out a letter from his jacket and handed it to me. I was a little nervous; I thought what in the world. Am I in trouble or something? I didn’t know what was going on so I continued to walk to the car. Scott stopped me and told me that I should sit down and read it. As I sat down and opened the letter realizing it was from Scott I soon began to catch on. I read the romantic loving words Scott had written out to me and began to tear up. As I was reading this letter Scott reached down to pull the ring box out of his sock where it had been kept from me all night ha ha. As I finished the letter I looked up to find Scott on his knee. Still shocked that we were actually going to get engaged at this moment I can’t recall everything he said to me but he asked me to marry him and I, of course, said YES. Scott had my friends taking pictures while this whole thing was happening, which just shows how much he knows me. I love pictures, and love that we have the proposal captured. That night was one of the happiest. It was so strange wearing a ring…still to this day I occasionally just stop what I’m doing just to look at the beautiful token of love Scott got on his knee to give to me. It will never get old.

“Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite.”

(EFY 2008, worst picture ever, but had to share)

Our love story began six years ago in Tacoma Washington at an EFY camp. Scott and I still can’t believe that we met at EFY and ended up getting married, we would have never guessed. But here we are starting a blog together. We met on the very last day during free time (cutting it pretty close), both our groups of friends were hanging out in the same room which is when I noticed Scott who was playing away on the piano. I remember telling my cousin whom I went to EFY with that I thought he was pretty cute. Later that night there was a closing dance that was held in the gymnasium. Without me knowing my cousin told Scott that he should ask me to dance, and he did. We were inseparable the rest of the night. After exchanging numbers we parted ways once the dance ended. The next morning everybody was packing up and leaving. We wanted to see each other one last time, Scott admits he was going to give me a kiss…but unfortunately we never got the chance. We didn’t know if we would see each other again, after all I lived in the small town of Prosser and he in Vancouver. So our little romance continued through texting for the next month until we were able to see each other again.
Fortunately my oldest sister Kim was living in Vancouver at this time so I made the plan to see Scott while I was there visiting. He picked me up and brought me to his house where we just watched a movie. That is when we had our first kiss and our last kiss for a while. After that night for some reason or another the texting back and forth gradually came to a stop. We didn’t communicate again until four years later.
One day as I was browsing through Facebook I noticed a post that Scott’s mom posted on his behalf informing his friends about his Birthday, giving his current address on the mission, and stating that he would love a letter. Until that moment I didn’t even realize I was a friend with him on Facebook nor did I know that he was serving a mission. EFY seemed so long ago and what I remembered of him was a cocky 17 year old boy who I had a crush on many years ago. Right then and there I felt like I should write him a letter. Although, I didn’t write him right away. I figured he probably wouldn’t even remember me and had too many other close friends and family to write. A couple days later the thought to write him came to me once again, this time I listened. I typed up a letter and sent it to him that day. I wasn’t even expecting a letter back from him, but a week later I received one. Scott says the day he received my first letter was actually on his half mark, he had been on his mission for one year.
We reconnected right away and began to write each other weekly. We wrote once sometimes twice a week. My one letter turned into a big collection very quickly. It started out with just simple questions to get to know each other and to catch up on what the other had been doing for the last four years, to making plans to see each other after the mission. In a nutshell, we fell in love and became best friends through letters. Any one who knows me knows that I am really shy with people I don’t know. So writing letters to Scott for a year was the perfect way to get comfortable and to really get to know each other. We were able to connect emotionally before physically. I couldn’t have written a better love story. That year of writing was one of the best years of my life. I loved loved loved getting letters from Scott. It was always the highlight of my day receiveing a letter from Elder Lindquist. I never checked the mail box so much in my life than I did in that year. I will always cherish those letters and never take for granted the simple act of writing down feelings and thoughts to another person.
Soon after Scott returned home on August 14th I took a trip to Vancouver to see him and attend his homecoming talk. We were both so anxious yet sooo extremely nervous to see one another again. It had been such a long time. The night before seeing Scott I remember not being able to get any sleep. I was so nervous to finally see the man I fell in love with through letters. At that point he seemed to only exist in photographs and letters, but in less than 24 hours we would be in each others arms. It's crazy how quick and how slow a year can go by. I will never forget those butterflies in my stomach when I made eye contact with Scott as he walked out of his house, and the overwhelming joy that overtook me when he put his arms around me and held me tight. We had a couple awkward/nervous moments but I was surprised how fast we were able to click. What we hoped would happen happened. We started dating right away on August 19th. It was such an amazing feeling finally being able to be with each other. We had to get used to actually being able to talk to each other whenever we wanted rather than having to wait a week for an answer to a question ha ha. It was great. Scott attended school at BYU Idaho while I went to UVU, we each made trips on the weekends to see each other. Luckily we were used to long distance from writing that being in two different states wasn’t AS terrible. It didn’t take much time for us to know we were going to get married. Only two months passed until we got engaged on October 26th. It was a long engagement so that Scott and I could complete both our years at school. We were sealed in the Columbia River Temple on May 11th, 2013. I am so grateful for everything that has happened in my life that has led me to marry Scott. Writing that first letter to Scott was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The wait was definitely worth it. There is no one else I would rather be with. For time and all eternity. Scott, I am so thankful for your decision to serve a mission and for dedicating 2 years to serve the lord.
